Passionate about what we do

Our staff have a wealth of experience running development programmes in the UK and overseas, making them our best asset. To date, we have trained thousands of people participating in expeditions. We have a unique infrastructure of expedition staff, including planning managers, consultants, medics and in-country agents who come together to provide a truly personal service, which we feel is second to none.


Our development programmes are designed within the framework of our mission statement to give the individual a central focus on what they will achieve throughout the programme.

Alistair Cole

Chief Executive

As a qualified Mountain Leader, Alistair has led over 40 overseas expeditions, holds numerous NEBOSH and CIEH safety qualifications, is an instructor in Off-Site-Safety Management and is an experienced Trauma Medic.

Ian Forbes

Company Manager

Ian is at home in any wilderness environment looking after clients, he is an experienced and highly qualified outdoor instructor with over 30 years' experience. Having led over 50 overseas expeditions to date he is also a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.

Tessa Dawson

Office Manager

After completing her BSc in Animal Behaviour and Welfare she worked as a research assistant, spending a significant amount of time at sea studying the behaviour of dolphins. Tess holds the Off-Site Safety Management qualification, and the Expedition Care Programme qualification.

Michael Fisher

Expeditions Manager

Born and bred in eSwatini, it's only natural that Michael (aka Fish) would graduate into the outdoor education world. Fish has worked for a variety of outdoor education companies in management roles, leading the African and Asian destination teams. Fish is a keen mountaineer and paddleboard instructor, and holds numerous outdoor education and safeguarding qualifications.

Hannah Tyler

School Coordinator

Hannah is a born and bred Surrey native and alum of Bristol UWE. Before university, she travelled independently around southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Laos to name a few. With many destinations still on her Wishlist, Hannah enjoys sharing the knowledge she has learned through personal travel experiences with our students and is the main point of contact for students and parents.

Jonathan Moutia

Accounts Manager

Having studied business and finance at Greenwich University, Jonathan joined the company in 2021. Jonathan joined an ALS expedition to Morocco in 2022 and has been asking to go on expeditions ever since!

Stacy Mallaby

Expeditions Director

Stacy has always had a passion for the outdoors and the natural world which led to her studying BSc Zoology and MSc Tropical Marine Biology. Following university, Stacy indulged her passion for travel, spending two years as the Resident Marine Biologist on a small island in the Indian Ocean. Travelling has given her a deep appreciation for different cultures and how communities interact with and rely on the natural world. She is an experienced and qualified diver and holds various remote medical qualifications, alongside the off-site safety management and aquatic rescue safety programmes.

Doniert Mancfarlane

MBBS BSc MRCS

Medical Director

Doniert has a background in Orthopaedics and Emergency Medicine. He has extensive experience of expedition medicine issues and prehospital care. When not advising the Lifesigns Group he works part-time as an Emergency Department Consultant.

Rowena Cole

Educational Advisor

After leaving Exeter University, Rowena went on to do a PGCE at Reading. She went on to become a School Programme Coordinator, before moving into the independent sector. Having worked on both sides of the education system, she is aware of the pressures that now exist when organising any activities for young people.

The Lifesigns Group is a privately owned group of companies specialising in overseas expeditions, conservation, security, medical solutions and outdoor education. 

Medical Lifesigns have been organising high quality First Aid training courses since 1999. We are an EdExcel approved training centre for medical awards and an Of Qual registered training provider through QualSafe awards.


Expedition Care Program – Experts in bespoke first aid courses and operational support for the expedition, wilderness and private sectors. ECP training courses range from a basic 1 day, Explorer Medicine Course all the way through to courses designed for qualified Doctors, Nurses and Expeditions Leaders. 

Situated on the banks of the river Adur and adjacent to the South Downs National Park, the Adur Centre is an ideal location for adventure. Our instructors and friendly centre staff deliver high quality safety training courses, residential trips and parties, and numerous adventurous sports. Our climbing wall is open to the public for taster and private sessions, and the site can be hired for events and family activities. 

Coral Cay Conservation is a renowned conservation specialist and expedition provider dedicated to providing the resources to help protect coral reefs throughout the developing world and committed to creating real-time solutions to the many plights suffered by our Ocean.


We have over 30 years of experience operating successful marine and terrestrial conservation projects, providing opportunities to budding scientists, collectively protecting biodiversity, empowering local stakeholders and building a sustainable future. Throughout this process, we have taught lifelong skills and provided practical conservation experiences to thousands of volunteers, allowing them to act against environmental impacts, strengthen their CVs, or undertake thesis data collection. All those who join us have a shared passion; to protect the natural world.
