MOUTAIN SAFETY TRAINING COURSE

This course is suitable for aspirant expedition leaders, teachers or individuals with plans or to lead expeditions in overseas mountain environments as well as those with previous mountain experience who wish to brush up on current good practice.

DAY ONE - MOUNTAIN SAFETY

Topics include health and safety in the mountain environment, hazards and risk assessment, equipment selection, survival, medical issues such as altitude sickness and navigation.

DAY TWO - OPERATING IN THE MOUNTAIN

Topics include the finer points of living and camping in the mountains together with considerations for planning expeditions and leading groups in the environment.

Day two considers more practical skills and look in detail at the practicalities of setting up base camps, equipment selection, mountain weather as well as the wider picture of emergency planning.

This course is not a formal mountaineering qualification; it is an introduction to the mountain environment. For formal qualifications, please see our courses section.
