Overseas Adventures

Expeditions have evolved

Inspire your future

Adventure Lifesigns expeditions provide you with a unique opportunity to plan and lead your own 1-4 week overseas expedition. You could be trekking through the jungles of Sarawak, climbing Africa's highest mountain, working at a Peruvian kindergarten or helping renovate a Nepalese school.

Whichever destination you choose, you are guaranteed to take away lasting memories. Adventure Lifesigns expeditions bring together teams of sixteen to twenty Explorers, forging friendships that will last for years. The expedition will not only broaden your horizons and inspire you, but will also provide you with skills and experience that you will carry with you into your future career. You will have something you can put on your CV that's highly valued by universities and employers alike.

Our expedition process

  • 1. Choose your Destination

Choose from the Himalayan Mountain ranges of Nepal to the luscious rainforest in Borneo, or perhaps a sunset safari in Zambia after seeing Victoria Falls, one of the world’s “Natural Wonders”. White tropical beaches in Kenya or snow-capped, volcanic mountains in Iceland. The choice is yours!

  • 2. Build a bepoke itinerary

Our bespoke itineraries mean your school can plan an expedition based on your values. Your expedition can be focused on trekking with a small project phase, or the other way around. We can give you professional advice along the way and ensure that the final trip is epic!

  • 3. Start fundraising

Expedition prep is more than just packing your bag. We encourage students to fundraise as much as possible, and those that plan early usually fundraise the most. Whether it be 2 years or 2 months before departure, it’s never too early/late to plan fundraising activities.

  • 4. Lets get training

Expedition preparation begins long before your departure. We’ve developed 3 training sessions to equip you with the skills needed during your expedition.

EST 1- Expeditions skills training – basic first aid training course, team building exercises and discussion about itinerary and destination. EST 1 happens within 6 months of signing up.

EST 2 -   Expands on EST 1. 1–2 days, overnight camping, bushcraft skills, and navigation. Groups will learn how to cook food whilst camping and plan meals for the expedition. Overnight camping (1–2 day course) 3-6 months before departure.

EST-3 - Day before or day of departure. Final preparation and kit check before the flight!

  • 5. The adventure begins!!

You’ve finished your final EST session. Your kit has been checked and packed, and now you’re ready to go!

Where will you go?

What adventure would you choose?

At Adventure Lifesigns, we offer bespoke itineraries, giving your school/ team the chance to have a say in what activities, treks, and projects they take part in. Some of our schools opt for a full trek based expedition, focusing on fitness and pushing themselves to summit a challenging climb. Whereas others may want their focus to be on a community project, where students can stay with locals and immerse into their culture, whilst working on efforts in villages and schools. Take a look at our overseas projects page for some examples of what you may get up to on an expedition project.

School and Young expeditions

At Beyond Boundaries we specialise in providing overseas development expedition programmes to the prep-school sector in the UK. If you are looking for a prep-school overseas experience, you have come to the right place!

If you would like further information or would like us to come and give a presentation at your prep school, please call us on +44 (0)1483 810785.

Our Scout & Guides expeditions offer UK Scout & Guide groups the chance to experience communities across the world, which otherwise may not be accessible to them. The objectives are to raise awareness of international issues and to take an active role in the global community. We offer support to groups who may not have the knowledge or facilities to give international experiences to young people in the 15-25 age group. Please contact us to create your bespoke itinerary.

FAQ's

Here are some common questions we get asked, however, please get in touch if there is anything else we can answer for you.

  • How can I get my school interested in starting an expedition?

Email or call us and we will organise a convenient time to come and give a presentation at your school.

  • What are the benefits of going on an expedition?

Travelling through a foreign country with an unfamiliar culture and landscape is utterly

different to your everyday life at home, but the exciting and valuable knowledge you

gain there will remain with you for many years to come. On your return, your

experiences will not only be of social and personal benefit but will also serve as an

an indispensable advantage to furthering your education or beginning a career.

  • How do we raise the money we need for an expedition?

As part of the developmental experience, each student will receive advice and

instructions on managing their money and support in the planning of fund-raising

events. Suggestions on how to raise funds are emailed to the student monthly.

  • What safety policies do you operate?

Adventure Lifesigns expeditions operate a comprehensive safety policy covering UK

safety guidelines, overseas safety guidelines, a 24-hour operations cell, a comprehensive

insurance package, worldwide medical cover and satellite communications. We

attach equal importance to all areas of our safety policy and thereby ensure that

each overseas expedition and UK-based training course complies with our strict

recommendations. For detailed information, please contact our office.

  • What qualifications and experience do the expedition leaders have?

All Expedition Leaders must have obtained the Mountain Leader Summer Award and

hold a wilderness medical certificate or higher. They must also have led overseas

expeditions before and be over 24 years of age.

  • What's included?

All flights, food, accommodation, in-country transport, permits, advice and staff costs are included in the price. We also provide travel insurance for your peace of mind.

To reduce the impact of your flight, Adventure Lifesigns have teamed up with Trees4Travel to help offset your flight's carbon emissions. Trees4Travel will plant trees for every explorer and the C02 absorbed by these trees, when they are mature, will help to negate the carbon emissions of your flight. By planting trees in developing countries, we then also help to restore ecosystems, biodiversity and support local communities through capacity building.
